How TMEDS is designed to work

Technical overview of the guarded timed syringe-push dock concept. Design goals—not clinical performance claims.

Mechanical concept

A reusable bedside dock clamps an approved standard syringe in a keyed cradle, couples a guarded carriage to the plunger flange, and drives a self-locking lead screw with a normally engaged brake. The medicament stays in the disposable syringe and clinical tubing—the dock does not become the fluid path.

Control concept

Delivery duration comes from a hospital-controlled drug library (minimum and maximum push times), not free-form bedside programming for high-alert drugs. Dual sensing (position and force) and a supervisor channel are intended to fail closed on disagreement, occlusion, door-open, or power loss.

What this is not

TMEDS does not determine whether a prescription is clinically appropriate, prove IV catheter placement, or eliminate professional or institutional liability. It is not FDA cleared and must not be used on patients until lawfully authorized.
